Learning from the NBA Bubble
“And the hoopers shall lead them…”
We knew that the COVID-19 was serious when the NBA suspended their regular season back in mid-March. When a seemingly billion dollar industry decides to close operations, something is up.
Surprisingly, along the way, they’ve shown us how to work through a pandemic. It turns out that nearly everything that the experts said has held true. The NBA has used social distancing, masks, consistent testing, and two-week quarantines to ensure a safe return to play
To date, they’ve seen players recover from COVID and rejoin their secluded bubble in Orlando to help their teams. Regular season games end on Friday, and there haven’t been any positive tests since the season restarted.
By a weird stroke of luck, it took sports to show many of us how to survive the pandemic until a trustworthy vaccine is released. In their pursuit of money and our entertainment, they’ve found a pathway out of 2020’s darkest moment. Next season might be in jeopardy, but this one is getting a respectable finish. I’m thankful.
